How To Make Paneer Curry

Paneer curry is a delicious and popular Indian dish with paneer (Indian cottage cheese) and a flavorful gravy. Here’s a simple recipe to make paneer curry at home:

Paneer Curry Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams paneer, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 large tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chillies, slit (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 cup fresh cream or yoghurt
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Paneer:
    • If you prefer, lightly fry the paneer cubes in a little oil until they are golden brown. This step is optional but adds a nice texture to the paneer. Set the fried paneer aside.
  2. Cook the Onions and Spices:
    • Heat oil or ghee in a large pan over medium heat.
    • Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.
    • Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
    • Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chillies (if using). Sauté for another 2-3 minutes until the raw smell goes away.
  3. Add Tomatoes and Spices:
    • Add the tomato puree to the pan and cook until the oil separates from the mixture.
    • Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Stir well and cook for a couple of minutes until the spices are well incorporated.
  4. Create the Gravy:
    • Add the fresh cream or yoghurt to the pan and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring continuously to prevent the cream from curdling.
    • If the gravy is too thick, you can add a little water to adjust the consistency.
  5. Add the Paneer:
    • Add the paneer cubes to the gravy and stir gently to coat them with the sauce.
    • Let the paneer simmer in the gravy for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavours to meld together.
  6. Finish and Serve:
    • Add garam masala powder and salt to taste. Mix well.
    • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

Serve your paneer curry hot with naan, roti, or steamed rice. Enjoy the rich and creamy flavours!
